Sustainable Buildings

The environmental movement has changed the face of building for ever. The industry has evolved from what it once was into the eco-friendly, green, environmentally concious marketplace that can cater for the needs of even the most dedicated eco-warrior with off the shelf technologies and equipment in order to help save the planet. Sustainable affordable housing is just one of many facets of the modern industry, and it focuses on ensuring that new build homes and buildings are constructed using as much sustainable material as possible.

When constructing affordable housing the most obvious sustainable material for developers to use is wood. Wood can be farmed from anywhere from rainforests in south America through to small local plantations, and it is in the best interests of everyone involved to utilise a sustainable source. Many plantations are now developed with sustainable building in mind, they focus on growing trees that are quick to develop and mature and are carefully managed so that when some is taken for affordable housing construction more is left to flourish, ensuring there is always a large amount of trees at various stages of maturity on site in a constant cycle of felling for wood and new growth.

There are many other materials used in affordable housing that are sustainable, rather than shipping roof thatching or natural insulation from half way across the globe most developers are utilising locally produced materials from sustainable sources making affordable housing as eco-friendly as can be. Even bricks used in the construction of affordable housing can be taken from sustainable sources thus minimising the housing developments impact on the environment, indeed the entire UK brick industry is now highly focused on the ways that they can improve things constantly to help prevent damage to the environment.

Whatever affordable housing you are looking at purchasing just because it is affordable and not on the luxury end of the market you can still breathe easy and rest assured that it was produced from eco-friendly sustainable sources, in fact many people purchasing new build affordable housing actually have far less of an impact on the environment than those modifying or renovating existing old structures!
