Derby Homes and Ethical Energy Supplier

Council housing tenants in Derby may be about to see a substantial reduction in their energy bills thanks to a new partnership with the UK’s only not-for-profit energy supplier.

Derby Homes has announced that it will promote Ebico as its preferred supplier for gas and electricity to all of its tenants.

Ebico’s specially designed tariff, which has no standing charge and just one flat rate per unit of energy used, enables customers to take control of their energy bills.

Shaun Bennett, Director of Investment and Regeneration at Derby Homes, said: “We provide our customers with energy efficiency advice and are always looking for new ways to help them reduce their bills.

“Many of our tenants pay a higher tariff with their current energy supplier because they pay by key or card meter. With Ebico, customers are charged the same rate, no matter how they pay, which seems a much fairer way of doing things.”

Phil Levermore, Managing Director of Ebico, said: “People on pre-payment meters generally get a raw deal from energy suppliers.

"We have made the system fairer by charging all customers the same rate regardless of their payment method and eliminating the standing charge. This makes a real difference to pre-payment customers who can expect to see a significant reduction in their bills.

"Our partnership with Derby Homes will allow us to offer more help those on lower incomes and in many cases, those suffering from fuel poverty.”

Through Ebico’s partnership with Derby Homes, the company will also donate money to improving energy efficiency within the housing organisation’s residential properties.
